Toured Old Fort Niagara.
Right on the banks of Lake Erie and one mile across from Canada. It is one of the few Forts that was used for its’ purpose as many battles were fought there. Men who were sent to protect the shoreline expected to stay for 1-2 years but actually had to stay for 10 years. The picture is of the house or castle taht housed the soldiers. Then it was on to Lockport and the Erie Canal. The ride to Lockport was beautiful and the many houses on the Lake were huge and plentiful. There was a tour available down the Erie and through the locks but there were several schools buses bringing the kids on their field trips so we decided not to partake. There were at least 10 buses full of kids at the Fort as well. We then went to Our Lady of Fatima Shine. Caught the last half of a daily Mass in the Cathedral then spent some time walking around the beautiful grounds. There were at least 100 statues of various saints and holy figures that had all been donated to the Shrine by different families. There is an enormous statue of Jesus on the cross that is lying flat most likely because it would be to heavy to stand up. Later that night drove to the Falls to them illuminated and the fireworks over the falls. The people at the campground told us to park at the Niagara Discovery Center in order to avoid and $8.00 parking fee and walk to the Falls. I told Ron it was too far bur we did it anyway. The walk was scary in the dark through a paved path in the woods and under a bridge with many areas to hide. This was the first time I have seen Ronnie truly concerned for our safety. We were both happy to get to a well lit area with people. Of course we had to take the walk back to the car at 10:15 PM alone but this time we walked in the road that was better lit but still just as desolate. Despite the scary walk the falls at night is beautiful and the fireworks display was equally as nice.
